You’ve found a photographer with the style of maternity photos that you love and you’ve booked your session. Now all that’s left is to work out what to wear! I’ve got you covered! When you book a maternity session with By Design Photography, know that as the momma, I have nearly everything that you need! I have an ever-growing gown closet that you get to choose your favorites from! You can check out what I have and keep up with new gowns on my Instagram highlights.
These gowns are perfect for in-studio sessions as well as on-location sessions! We work together to choose locations and the perfect gowns to accentuate your baby bump! On occasion, I have a momma who wants to bring her own outfits. This is great too! When choosing your own outfits to bring, there are a few things to keep in mind. Dresses that a flow, are perfect for movement. We can still accentuate your baby bump by posing but the rest of the dress gives you something to play with and create beautiful movement. Form-fitting outfits are also fun to play around with too! When choosing any of your outfits, color is important to keep in mind. You can’t go wrong with neutrals! Colors are fun too, but you should keep the location and season in mind. Choosing colors that will naturally be found in that location means that you will be cohesive with your surroundings.
When you choose a studio session, we also get to play around with none gown options. Flowing material and leotards are beautiful additions to any session that can create beautifully unique options every time!
So we’ve got momma taken care of, but what if you want to include your family? For dads to be, I suggest keeping it simple. Depending on the look you are going for with the session will guide the clothing choices for dad. If we are doing an on-location outdoor session with the family, you might prefer a little more laid back. So jeans and a casual button-down shirt, sweater, or henley are great! You want to stay away from heavy patterns. One patterned outfit looks casual as long as it’s used as an accent and there aren’t too many people wearing it. If you are looking for a more elegant look, keep that button-down solid and pair it with khakis or black pants. Black or brown shoes are best styled with any of these looks!
For kids, it’s fairly similar. Keep your color choices similar, but not exactly the same as a dad. That way everyone flows together but doesn’t blend into one another. Simple dresses and solid colored shirts will keep your photos timeless!
I’m always available to help with decision making too! I have a list of favorite places to look for the perfect combination of outfits for the whole family! Your session comes with a complimentary styling session where we will work through all the details to make your session perfect!
